Grilled Pizza

Pizza is a family favorite. Store bought pizza can be greasy and/or expensive and heating up your oven, and house, on a hot Summer day is not ideal. So cure your pizza craving and avoid heating up your house by grilling your pizza.

You can use any pizza dough that you like. Our family really enjoys this quick no-rise pizza dough.

1 Tbsp yeast
1-2 Tbsp sugar
1 & 1/2 C warm water
3 Tbsp oil
3-4 C flour
Combine yeast, sugar, and water in a bowl and let proof for about 5 minutes. Mix in the oil and flower. This will make enough dough for two roughly 16″ pizzas, depending on how thick you like your crust.

For toppings, use whatever you like. Today, we used a homemade chunky marinara meat sauce with sausage, mozzarella cheese, mushrooms, and pepperoni.

While your yeast is proofing, fire up your grill to a temperature of about 350 degrees. Once you’re dough is ready, pull a length of wax paper to cover a cookie sheet and spray the paper with a little cooking spray. This will help the dough not stick to the paper. Roll out your dough on the wax paper.

Head out to your grill and double check you heat! If the heat’s too high, you’ll burn your crust. If it’s too low, you won’t get a nice golden color. 325-350 is where you want to be. Before placing your dough on the grill, spray the top liberally with cooking spray. Pick up the wax paper by the edges and flip the dough face down on the grill and peal off the wax paper.

Close the lid and cook the dough for about 5 minutes before flipping.

Once your dough is flipped, add your toppings as quickly as you can.

Close the lid and cook for another 5 or so minutes, checking the edges and bottom for color and scorching.

Enjoy!
