A sweet, light, and airy citrus treat that mom, and everyone else, will love.
Ingredients
  • 2 Tbsp. yeast
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • ½ cup warm water
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup and 2 Tbsp. milk
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 4¾ cups flour
  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • orange rind to taste
  • ⅓ cup softened butter
Instructions
  1. Mix together and let set: Tbsp. yeast, tsp. sugar, ½ cup warm water
  2. Scald the milk and let cool for 1-2 minutes. While the milk is cooling, lightly beat two eggs. Combine them in a mixing bowl and add sugar, salt, and vegetable oil. Blend well. Add 2½ cups of flour, the orange juice, and orange rind to taste. I used an entire orange for the dough. Mix well.
  3. When mixed, add the remaining 2¼ cups of flour and blend until it's all mixed together. Let rise until double.
  4. Now you're ready to roll out your dough. Flour the surface liberally, as this dough is sticky! Roll out dough into a sheet roughly ¼" - ½" thick. Spread ⅓ cup softened butter across the entire surface of the dough, then sprinkle sugar to taste.
  5. Roll the dough length-wise into a roll and cut into 1.5" pieces. Place as many as you can into a 12" dutch oven and bake at 350 for 20 minutes.
  6. While baking, prepare a simple powdered sugar frosting, substituting orange juice for milk, and adding more orange rind to taste. Spread on warm orange rolls.
